Hiring a Shopify Developer in Ahmedabad: What to Look For and Ask
Choose a Shopify developer in Ahmedabad by reviewing relevant work, theme decisions, safe store access, testing and the handover your team will need.
Define the Shopify job before comparing developers
When hiring a Shopify developer in Ahmedabad, start with the work you need done. Launching a store, adapting a theme, improving a product page and migrating an existing catalogue involve different skills and dependencies. A useful conversation begins with the selling model and the problem, rather than a request to copy another storefront.
Write down whether the store is new or live, who buys from it and what customers need to do. Include the product types, required payment and shipping arrangements, current apps and the updates your team expects to manage. For an existing store, identify the pages or interactions that need attention.
Local availability can make discussions convenient, but location alone does not establish technical fit. Agree communication hours, meeting arrangements and who is responsible for decisions. Then assess the developer’s reasoning, evidence and delivery process.
Review relevant work beyond the homepage
Ask the developer to explain a project with a similar buying journey. A clothing store with straightforward variants is different from a catalogue where customers request a consultation. Look at collection browsing, mobile product information, search, cart or enquiry behaviour and the merchant’s editing workflow.
- What did the developer personally design or implement?
- Which parts came from the theme, an app or an existing system?
- Why was that approach chosen for the merchant?
- What can the merchant edit without touching code?
- What changed during testing, and how was it resolved?
For an example from our work, the Nidhi Halani Shopify case study covers a custom Liquid storefront, collection browsing and product-specific consultation enquiries. The project is relevant to couture presentation and enquiry journeys. It is not evidence of an invented revenue increase or a guarantee that the same approach fits another merchant.
If somebody claims a sales or performance improvement, ask what was measured, over which period and what else changed. A live website can also evolve after handover, so establish which part of the current experience the developer is responsible for.
Ask questions that reveal how they make decisions
| Question | Look for an answer that explains |
|---|---|
| Should we customise a theme or build a new one? | Which required layouts and interactions the current theme can support cleanly |
| Why is each proposed app needed? | Its purpose, recurring cost, permissions and maintenance implications |
| What will our team be able to edit? | Specific fields, sections and controls demonstrated in the editor |
| What cannot be changed as requested? | Platform, checkout, provider or plan limitations identified early |
| How will the existing store be protected? | A preview, backup, review and launch process |
| How will we know the work is complete? | Named customer and staff journeys with acceptance checks |
A responsible answer may include a feasibility check. Be cautious if every requirement receives an immediate promise without looking at the theme, apps or provider documentation. A custom theme does not remove all platform restrictions, and an app recommendation should explain the dependency it creates.
If platform choice is still open, use the Shopify vs custom ecommerce comparison to settle that question before paying for detailed storefront design.
Keep store ownership and access under your control
The merchant should control the store, domain and billing accounts. Where the developer is working as a Shopify Partner, use an appropriate collaborator request and grant only the access needed for the work. Shopify’s collaborator account documentation explains permission control, removal and the two-step authentication requirement. Do not share the owner’s password as a shortcut.
For theme changes, ask where the review version will live and how the current theme will be preserved. Shopify supports duplicating a theme before customising it. A theme copy is not a complete backup of products, orders or other store data, so confirm the separate protection needed for any data changes.
Theme previews also do not isolate every admin setting or app action. The developer should identify changes that affect the live store and agree when they can be made. That matters especially when the store is already taking orders.
Compare the same deliverables in each proposal
A proposal should distinguish theme design, theme development, store configuration, content entry and integrations. If “product upload” is included, ask how many products, which information you must supply and who checks variants and collections. If migration is included, ask which records can move and which require manual work.
- Templates and reusable sections, with clear editable controls.
- Catalogue and collection organisation, including content responsibilities.
- Payment, shipping and other settings included in the agreed configuration.
- Apps, theme licences and subscriptions paid by the merchant.
- Review stages, change requests and the acceptance process.
- Handover, defect support and any separately scoped ongoing work.
For an Ahmedabad business, agree the working arrangement in practical terms: who attends reviews, who approves the catalogue and how urgent issues are reported. For remote work, a clear review link and a written decision record can be more useful than frequent unstructured calls.
Be wary of guaranteed rankings, guaranteed sales or an undefined promise of unlimited revisions. Ask for commitments the developer controls: the agreed implementation, verification and handover.
Make testing and handover part of the hiring decision
Ask to see a test plan before launch. It should follow the customer’s path and the staff tasks that support it. A page being visually complete is not the same as a working store. Test representative product types, unavailable variants and whatever enquiry or checkout journey the business actually uses.
Shopify recommends test orders to check checkout and related order settings. Follow the official test-order guidance and the payment provider’s supported process. Test mode can prevent real customer purchases, so agree the timing and confirm the live configuration afterwards.
- Review mobile collection and product pages with real catalogue content.
- Test purchase or enquiry paths, including validation and failure states.
- Confirm that order or enquiry information reaches the right staff destination.
- Verify titles, descriptions, links, images and any changed URLs.
- Have the merchant perform a routine product and homepage update.
- Hand over access, licences, implementation notes and the support process.
For enquiry-led products, use the price-on-request checklist to test product context and quote follow-up. For every project, define how new work will be estimated after handover and remove access that is no longer needed.
How to start a useful conversation with Peak Web Craft
Peak Web Craft is a boutique website development and design studio based in Ahmedabad. Our Shopify development service covers scoped storefront, theme and configuration work. The first discussion should identify the catalogue, required journeys and connected tools, then establish whether the approach fits the platform.
Send your store URL if it exists, examples of the pages or interactions you want to improve, and the systems the store must work with. Include any fixed launch dependency and who will approve content. That gives us a basis for a proposal grounded in your store rather than a generic package.
| Decision | Evidence to ask for |
|---|---|
| Theme work | Which layouts, settings and product behaviours will be changed? |
| Product enquiries | What product context reaches the team, and how is failure handled? |
| Merchant editing | Which routine updates can the merchant make after handover? |
| Exclusions | Are apps, migration, subscriptions and ongoing changes included or separate? |
Our fashion and made-to-order Shopify page uses the Nidhi Halani project to explain a relevant collection and consultation journey. It does not imply that every store needs the same theme or product rules.
Questions about hiring a Shopify developer
Do I need a developer in the same city?
Not necessarily. Relevant experience, communication and a workable review process matter more than proximity alone. A local studio can be convenient when the project benefits from in-person discussions.
Should the developer own my Shopify account?
The merchant should retain ownership and billing control. Grant suitable working access for the agreed tasks and review it when the engagement ends.
Can the existing theme be retained?
Possibly. Ask for a review of its structure, current customisations and required changes. Keeping a suitable theme may be more practical than replacing it unnecessarily.
Is ongoing SEO included in development?
Confirm the written scope. Agreed page and technical foundations can be part of a build; continued research, content work and reporting need their own responsibilities and budget.
